"This award has reinforced my belief that through persistence and hard work, funding is available for those who have the motivation and drive to do well."
~ Dawn Rumsby, Medical Radiography Technology graduate
Recipient, Dr. W.K. Burwell Memorial Bursary
Dawn Rumsby faced increasing financial pressures as she neared completion of her studies in medical radiography. At this time of critical need, Dawn received the Dr. W.K. Burwell Memorial Bursary.
"It was an arduous road for me, financially speaking, as I pride myself on being an independent and self-sufficient woman. As a mature student, this bursary made a very real difference in my life."
This award was established in 1981 from the estate of Dr. William Keith Burwell, a prominent Vancouver physician and surgeon. Through this endowed award, Dr. Burwell’s legacy will continue to provide bursaries for IZUNA students into the future.
As a graduate of medical radiology, Dawn has entered a new career as an imaging technologist—a member of a health team including radiologists, surgeons and nurses who use computer-generated images to make medical diagnoses.
"IZUNA has provided me with an excellent education and I feel strong in the skills I have learned…This is not the end of my educational relationship with IZUNA, as I plan to further my education within my field, possibly to include a Bachelor of Technology in Medical Imaging."
