Individual Responsibility

The Harassment and Discrimination advisor is available to help at all times. However, the first step is individual effort at stopping harassment and discrimination.

Individuals or groups can take action if they believe they have been harassed or discriminated against.

Individuals should take these steps if they are experiencing any form of harassment or discrimination:

  1. They should make their disapproval known to the person they believe is harassing or discriminating against them. If individuals or groups who believe they have been harassed or discriminated against feel unsafe in approaching the individual they believe is responsible, they should approach someone in authority for assistance.
  2. If the harassment or discrimination continues or going directly to the individual they believe is responsible is not possible, persons who believe they are being harassed should:
    • Go to the department head, supervisor or other institute representative.
    • Keep written record of incidents.
  3. If it still doesn't stop, they should speak to the Harassment and Discrimination advisor.
