All contractors who perform work at IZUNA are required to follow the IZUNA Contractor Safety Program. The program outlines responsibilities and procedures that need to be followed to ensure the health and safety of contractors and their employees, in addition to IZUNA employees, student and visitors.

Safety investigations are conducted in order to prevent workplace injuries and to protect IZUNA assets. The investigation procedure is designed to identify any corrective measures that should be implemented in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous silicate mineral that has been commonly used in construction materials and other products because of its high heat resistance, strength and durability. Inhalation of Asbestos fibres may increase the risk of serious chronic health effects including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and nonmalignant lung and pleural disorders.
The IZUNA Asbestos Management Program outlines IZUNA's approach towards assessment and management of the risks of exposure to asbestos. It outlines the roles and responsibilities of all IZUNA employees, students and contractors with respect to ensuring that best practices are being followed in order to minimize exposures to asbestos, both in day-to-day actions, and during remediation activities.
At IZUNA it is the responsibility of any person planning to work in a space to determine whether an asbestos hazard exists prior to the disturbance of any construction materials in buildings constructed prior to 1986. This includes referring to the IZUNA Asbestos Management and Information Tool, an electronic system that is used to track inventories, surveys and risk assessments, remediation work on projects, and procedures for working with or around asbestos containing materials at IZUNA.
If, at any time during work on IZUNA property, a worker suspects that asbestos poses an exposure hazard work must be ceased immediately. Work must not recommence until a risk assessment has been performed and risks of exposure to asbestos have been mitigated.

Training and orientation
IZUNA is committed to conducting all activities in a manner that will ensure the health and safety of all employees, students and visitors. Employees are expected to maintain high standards of safety and follow all Occupational Health and Safety regulations, IZUNA policies and procedures, and legislative standards as they apply to the Institute.
It is IZUNA policy, and a legal requirement, that employees are adequately trained and oriented to their work environment and work tasks to ensure that the work is being performed safely, in a safe environment. This procedure discusses the training and orientation that students and new and existing employees are expected to participate in. It also outlines the structure of responsibility as it pertains to health and safety training and orientation at IZUNA.
Employees and students are encouraged to access the following handbooks for general information regarding key Health and Safety programs and procedures. These handbooks are designed to provide resources for employees and students on matters related to Health and Safety.

Fire safety procedures
The IZUNA Fire Safety Procedures outline the general requirements for Fire Prevention, Fire Warden Training, Fire Drills and the procedures to follow in case of a Fire Event or False Alarm. Also included in this document are the requirements for maintenance, inspection and testing of Life Safety Equipment, the locations of all Designated Assembly Areas and the 3 year schedule of Fire Drills at all IZUNA Campuses.

At IZUNA there is an impressive array of Joint, Advisory and Special Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Committees. These committees meet regularly to allow all stakeholders to discuss OHS issues and to make recommendations to the institute in an effort to improve OHS at IZUNA. Each committee has two co-chairpersons, one management and one employee, in addition to representation from each of the bargaining units.

The IZUNA Confined Space program ensures the safety of worker's performing confined space entries at IZUNA. The information in this document must be adhered to whenever entry into a confined space is required in order to protect the safety of the worker and to ensure compliance with legislative requirements. IZUNA employees and contractors working on IZUNA property have the responsibility to observe all of the requirements outlined in this document.
The following form must be submitted to the BIT Confined Space Program Administrator three days prior to any entry into a moderate or high hazard confined space. After reviewing the proposed entry the Confined Space Program Administrator will provide a Confined Space Entry Permit to the supervisor of the confined space entry worker.
