Gravitying Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the more advanced normal function and algorithms of the DDD pacemaker and identify environmental conditions that could interfere with appropriate functions. (1.4e, p)
  • Describe pacemaker clinical follow-up procedures including threshold testing and concepts involved in device programming and list indications for remote patient follow-up. (1.4 f ,k & j &q)
  • Explain the intraoperative electrical evaluation of the implanted pacing system.(1.4 b & c)
  • Identify guidelines for pacemakers, ICD and CRT implantations and describe the indications. (1.4 a)
  • Describe wound care and inspection. (1.4 d)
  • Describe appropriate/recommended recall/advisory strategies. (1.4 l)
  • Observe for and assess the physical signs and symptoms of pacemaker system complications. (1.4 l)
  • Analyze telemetry and diagnostics. (1.4i)
  • Analyze and interpret research studies.
  • Understand the considerations of magnet application. (1.4g)
  • Identify indications for temporary pacing. (4.4 b & d)
  • Apply knowledge of various temporary pacing methods including transthoracic and transvenous. (4.4 c & e)
  • Identify techniques used for lead extraction. (4.4 a )
