In this course, you will be presented with the basic concepts and techniques needed for watershed analysis and drainage facility design. You will develop basic observation and estimation skills through worksheets, mapwork and a small field project. Fundamental concepts include rainfall intensity, runoff, catchment area, streamflow, infiltration, mass balance, snowmelt, rainfall frequency, and the hydrologic cycle. The streamflow estimation procedures discussed are the rational method and the unit hydrograph.
This course will run for a total of 14 classes. PLEASE NOTE: There will be no class on Saturday April 20, 2018.There will be 12 classes on Saturdays Apr 6 - Jun 29 and there will be 2 classes on Thursday, May 16 & Thursday, Jun 27 for at total of 14 classes.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Explain the fundamental concepts and physical quantities of the hydrologic cycle.
Perform a map-based drainage basin analysis.
Analyze rainfall, snowmelt, runoff, and stream flow data, and produce useful engineering data products.
Apply the Rational Method to storm drainage design.
Apply the Unit Hydrograph method to the prediction of design flows in streams and rivers.
