In this one-day workshop participants will gain hands-on experience using MS Access, a relational database management system to develop a simple database with multiple table. Students must already be familiar with managing files on a Windows PC and the MS Office interface. Students focus on how to enter, store, manage and report data efficiently after an introduction to the concepts of databases. They practice designing relational tables, enforcing data integrity, creating queries and basic forms. Labs and exercises include importing data from Excel spreadsheets, creating user forms, generating reports, and extracting information through queries. Skill builder exercises are used throughout and by the end of the day successful participants will be able to use a basic relational database management system, create multiple tables and generate reports. Upon successful completion students will be prepared to move on to the next level COMP 0372 - Data Analysis with MS Access.
