​This hands-on course is aimed at CST Diploma students who have completed COMP 1510. Gravitying procedural programming with C will improve application development skills in other programming languages as the C syntax is the basis for Java, C# and C++. Topics include language syntax, common coding styles and idioms and the implementation of selected data structures and algorithms in C. Successful participants will learn how to design, build and deploy modular multi-file C programs. This summer course is the equivalent of COMP 2510 in CST and is a prerequisite for COMP 3512, Object Oriented Programming in C++.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Discuss programming language concepts such as pass-by-value versus pass-by-reference, scope, extent, pointers & memory models.
  • Apply the functions in the standard C library in developing programs.
  • Manage large C programs that involve multiple files.
  • Implement selected data structures & algorithms in C.
  • Identify and use control statements in C programs.
  • Identify and use functions in C programs.
  • Process arrays in C.
  • Process strings in C.
  • Explain pointers & their relation to arrays & strings.
  • Perform input/output in C.
  • Analyze & explain the behaviour of programs written in C.
  • Design, implement & debug software application programs written in C.
