OMP 2920 has been replaced by COMP 4669. This hands-on course continues from COMP 1920 Server-side Web Scripting with PHP Level 1 and covers how to write reusable classes and object-oriented scripts. The main focus is on object-oriented design, advanced database programming techniques, and security issues. Topics include: Open-source PHP libraries (via Composer), third party API/SDKs, and use popular frameworks to add complex functionality to web applications. Encryption, compression, templating, hashing, and multiple file format creation (.doc, .pdf, .rtf, .zip, .xls) are also discussed. Students work together in groups to build scripts and libraries for advanced, secure web applications with online database transactions. Participants learn the PHP command line interface (no Web server required). Upon successful completion students will be able to leverage open-source libraries, third party tools and current popular frameworks to quickly develop modular and secure web applications to industry standards. COMP 2920 is a required course in the “Web and Mobile Application Development” associate certificate plus it is an elective in the CST/PTS Diploma.
