COMP 3913 - MEAN Stack Web Application Development

Computer Systems Part-time Studies Course

School of Computing and Academic Studies

Course Details

MEAN is an open-source JavaScript software stack for building and deploying dynamic websites and platform independent web applications. This intensive, hands-on course follows on from COMP 2015 Introduction to JavaScript and jQuery, COMP 2909 AngularJS and COMP 2912 Node.js Fundamentals. Students for MEAN Stack Web Application Development must have completed these specific prerequisites and have solid web scripting abilities in HTML5 and CSS3. MEAN is an acronym for MongoDB, Express, Angular.js and Node.js, which all use standard JavaScript. This course starts with a review of Node.js, then students will build a website with Node.js and Express. Labs and exercises introduce MogoDB and how to access MongoDB data with Node.js. There is also a review of AngularJS then hands-on labs and assignments reinforce how to use AngularJS with Node.JS. The open source Visual Studio Code IDE will be used to facilitate coding, testing and debugging MEAN Stack web applications. MEAN Stack web applications can be written in one language for both server-side and client-side execution environments. Upon successful completion of COMP 3913, participants will be able to develop secure data-driven business web applications. PLEASE NOTE: This course is offered for the final time in February 2019.
