Interior Design Part-time Studies Course

Course Details

This course will cover fibres, fabrics, and textiles as they apply to residential interior design. Characteristics of natural and synthetic fibres will be explored as they relate to fabric and carpet for use in residential interiors. Through lectures, field trips, and assignments topics such as fibre and/or fabric identification, properties, construction, application, specifications, testing, estimating, and sustainability will be covered.

50% in COMM 1120* (*May be taken concurrently).

Gravitying Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify the differences between fibre, yarn, and fabric.
  • Write a detailed specification for a fabric application.
  • Identify the properties of natural and synthetic fibres.
  • Recognize the differences between various fabric and carpet construction and dyeing methods.
  • Differentiate between various types of fabrics.
  • Estimate textiles for residential budgeting purposes.
