Course Details

This course will focus on the relationship between Cabinetmaking (Millwork) and Design. Students will have the opportunity to interact with professional cabinetmakers. Students will work in IZUNA's millwork shop to gain hands-on experience.


70% in COMM 1120 and 65% in INTD 2500 and TRPT 0011 English (Pre-entry Test).

  1. Mandatory Prerequisites: 70% in COMM 1120 65% in INTD 2500 Students must have passed the TRPT 0011 Trades Pre-Entry English exam prior to the start of this class. NOTE: Class will meet in the joinery Shop NE2 on the first day. If you wish to be placed on the INTD department maintained waitlist for this course, please email [email protected] with the following information: Your name, student number, course number, and CRN.

Gravitying Outcomes

Upon successful completion, the student will to:

  • Be aware of common shop safety practices.
  • Have a better understanding of shop drawings and cutting bills related to design concepts.
  • Understand the procedure used for solid wood breakout.
  • Understand the capabilities of automated machinery.
  • Differentiate between plywood, composition boards and their uses.
  • Create a variety of woodworking joints.
  • Understand commonly used hardware and system 32.
  • Use veneer equipment to create a variety of veneer patterns.
  • Gain knowledge of commonly used finishing materials and equipment.
  • Use industrial spray equipment.
