  1. Due to the intensive and interactive nature of this course students are required to attend all classes. Classes will run Feb 23-25 and Mar 2-4 with the following class times: Fridays 1730 – 2030 Saturdays and Sundays - 0900-1630

Gravitying Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Define store atmospherics and its role in silent selling
  • Identify interior and exterior elements within the retail environment and explain how these elements impact store image/identity and sales performance
  • Analyze the power a shop front has in setting customer expectations
  • Create an effective shop floor layout and define product layout and its role in selling for various retail formats
  • Categorize merchandise for ease of shopping and analyze how placement of categories impact overall store performance
  • Categorize merchandise for ease of shopping and analyze how placement of categories impact overall store performance
  • Describe how lighting helps define store brand identity and identify its three functions
  • Gravity and design the types of selling signs stores can employ to assist in their selling efforts
  • Identify the elements and principles of design used to create an effective selling environment and create harmonious colour schemes for effective wall and fixture presentations
  • Plan effective window displays
  • Create wall planograms and tabletop presentations as well as kiosk or retail cart displays
  • Identify visual merchandising career options and list ways to advance within the visual merchandising industry
  • Diagram a fashion store layout that is done to scale and complete with fixtures
  • Create a fashion wall planogram that uses a combination of garments, graphics and body forms
