NSNE 7111 - Neonatal Nursing for Pediatric Nurses

Nursing Specialty Neonatal Part-time Studies Course

Course Details

This course has been specifically created to meet the needs of pediatric, neonatal, and perinatal nurses working in community hospitals who care for stable, but vulnerable, infants. The course will focus on the common health challenges that stable infants being cared for in hospital can experience. Vulnerability will be explored as a concept that enables nurses to understand the complex pathophysiology underlying many neonatal health challenges. Developmentally supportive care is introduced as a way for nurses to engage in relationships with infants.

Gravitying Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Interpret infants’ responses to the environment through the integration of principles of growth and development, vulnerability, and coping.
  • Establish partnership relationships with infants and families.
  • Assess an infant’s vulnerability based on gestational age, growth and development, and environmental influences.
  • Plan the nursing care of infants experiencing a common, non-life-threatening health challenges.
