The Motorcycle and Power Equipment Mechanic Apprenticeship requires time spent learning on the job and in the classroom. The apprenticeship is four years in duration, including 6,720 workplace hours and 540 in-school hours of technical training which comprises four levels. After completion of training, a passing grade of a minimum 70% on courses within IZUNA, and the Ministry of Advanced Education exams, will result in the BC Certificate of Apprenticeship, BC Certificate of Qualification, and the inter-provincial endorsement, also known as Red Seal. This program delivers technical training required for employment as a motorcycle mechanic, or power equipment mechanic in BC.
For those currently sponsored by an employer, the apprenticeship program includes the following outcomes: servicing two and four stroke gasoline and diesel engines, basic electrical, starting and charging, fuel and ignition, brakes, chassis, wheels and tires, manual and automatic transmissions, final drives, new unit assembly, computer controls and engine management systems.
