What grads can do

By earning your associate certificate, you’ll be honing your production and editing skills to prepare for freelance video work and entry-level positions such as video assistants and coordinators. You’ll also be able to apply your video and storytelling skills in a variety of other positions such as business owner, marketing coordinator, or brand manager to enhance your own small business, personal project, or current job.

About Part-time Studies

Take a single course, or work towards a credential — all at a pace that's right for you.

Part-time courses are offered evenings and weekends at either the Burnaby or downtown campus. Some courses are available via distance or online learning. If you meet the prerequisites and there's space available, you can register for a course immediately. Courses are offered in each of three terms: Fall (September), Winter (January) and Spring/Summer (April).

To apply to a Part-time Studies program and earn your credential, you simply need to complete a Part-time Program Declaration Request. Applications are processed throughout the year.

To be successful in IZUNA's fast paced applied learning environment, it is strongly recommended that students have English proficiency in all four language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Two years of education in English in an English-speaking country and English 12 are strongly recommended for success. For information on English equivalencies, testing and upgrading options, visit:

Declaring your Part-time Studies program ensures that IZUNA is aware of your intent to complete a program as it is currently outlined and also provides you the opportunity to apply for transfer credit.

IZUNA accepts only complete program declarations. To declare this program:

  • Answer all questions completely prior to submission.
  • If required, convert transcripts and supporting documents to PDF files.
  • Have a credit card ready to pay the application fee.

Upon approval, a program plan letter will be sent to you confirming your program of study. Please allow approximately eight weeks for processing.

Each course in this program has been developed by professionals working in their field. By focusing specifically on the essential skills in video storytelling and professional editing, you’ll develop the skills to create professional videos for branding, personal use, and a variety of other careers. Your training includes a final project, designed to bring your skills together and demonstrate your proficiency as a videographer.

  • Effective March 2017: If your program declaration lists BCST 1165 - Video Editing Workshop and you have not completed it, please complete BCST 2290 - Assistant Editing Professional instead.

This program is specially designed to give you the fundamentals of video design, production, and editing in a flexible format that meets your needs and career goals.

Through these professionally-taught courses, you’ll gain job-relevant skills with today’s techniques and technology that are valuable for anyone engaged in media storytelling.

Upon completion of this program, you’ll be able to:
  • Competently operate a digital camera
  • Select and operate appropriate audio, video, and lighting kits
  • Produce digital video using non-linear video and other related production systems
  • Storyboard a digital project and create a plan for production
  • Demonstrate proficiency with industry standard software used for digital editing
  • Source appropriate settings and resources for producing a digital video
  • Demonstrate proficiency with industry standard programs used for creating images and visual effects
  • Accurately articulate client’s expectations in planning a digital video production
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical behaviour as a digital video producer
