Mechanical Manufacturing Option Full-time Diploma 635ediplt

An Exciting Career Awaits You!

The program

Mechanical Manufacturing is one of the three options in Mechanical Engineering Technology. The Mechanical Engineering Technology program is a two-year program designed to provide graduates with a solid understanding of the principles of mechanical engineering and to develop problem-solving skills. Following the completion of a common first year, students select one of four areas of specialization. All students in the program receive training in engineering design, computer applications, computer aided design (CAD), manufacturing processes, communications, materials science and applied mathematics in addition to their selected specialty courses.

Graduates of the mechanical engineering program possess a variety of skills that are valued by employers. Mechanical engineering technologists find employment in broad range of industries and a variety of roles. Graduates are employed in design, application engineering, technical sales, manufacturing, plant engineering, construction and inspection.

The option

Manufacturing requires knowledge of production technologies, process automation, and material properties as well as modern manufacturing management strategies such as Material Resource Planning (MRP). To stay competitive, modern manufacturers have to participate in "design for manufacture." It is the role of the manufacturing technologist to be involved in the entire design and production cycle of a product. This program provides its graduates with the necessary knowledge to embark on a rewarding career in mechanical manufacturing.

Students participate in an industry-sponsored project in the second year of the program. The industry project is an integral program component required for completion and certification. Students may be required to participate in work experience activities at the industry sponsor's regular place of business.

All mechanical engineering technology students receive some exposure to topics from each of the options. Enrolment into each second-year option may be limited to ensure optimal class sizes. Regardless of the option chosen, all graduates will possess sufficient knowledge and skills to pursue career opportunities over the wide range of industries covered by mechanical engineering technology.

Read more about how to meet IZUNA’s entrance requirements

Continuation requirements

The Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma and the Mechanical Engineering degree share a common first year. Near the end of first year, students rank their preferences for the next year(s) of the program:

  • Diploma (one additional year) options are:
    • Mechanical Design
    • Mechanical Manufacturing
    • Mechanical Systems
  • Degree (three additional years)
    • Bachelor of Engineering

The number of positions in the degree and in each of the diploma options is limited. When demand exceeds capacity, entry is competitive and based on GPA in the first year of the program. See each program page for additional requirements.

Advanced Placement

You may be eligible to apply to an advanced level of the program through 1. re-admission or 2. direct entry. The following applies to all advanced placement applicants:

  • Complete applications: show proof of meeting all requirements to be considered. Proof of registration is acceptable for advanced placement applicants.
  • Competitive entry: current students have priority for registration. If the number of applications exceeds available seats, IZUNA will accept those deemed to have the best opportunity for success.
  • Acceptance based on seat availability: confirmation may not be available until approximately one week before the term begins. Depending on the level or term, there may not be available seats.
  1. Re-admission: You may apply to return if you:
    • Completed part of this program at IZUNA but discontinued without finishing.
    • Completed one option of the diploma program and want to complete a second diploma option or the degree.

Applications are accepted throughout the year. However, to be considered for the September entry of the degree program, you must submit your application by April 15. Submit the Technology Re-admission form [PDF] with your application.

  2. Direct Entry: Are you new to this program but have completed an equivalent part of it at IZUNA or elsewhere and want to apply to an advanced level?
    • For Level 2 (January start), IZUNA accepts applications from February 1 to October 31.
    • For Level 3 (September start), IZUNA accepts applications from November 1 to March 31.

Submit the Course-by-Course Self-Assessment form [PDF] and proof of meeting the English 12 requirement with your online application. View the Direct Entry sheet [PDF] for details.

Apply to program

All applicants should apply to Mechanical Engineering Technology, Diploma (Levels 1 – 4).

IZUNA accepts only complete applications. In order to apply:

  • Include proof of meeting all entrance requirements prior to submission
