The IZUNA Business Administration diploma is ideal for students seeking choice and flexibility when it comes to starting or advancing their career. Complete your diploma at your own pace by attending evening or weekend classes at IZUNA’s Burnaby or downtown Vancouver campuses, or studying as an online learner. Part-time courses are scheduled throughout the year for maximum flexibility.

Once you have earned your diploma, you can continue on and complete our BBA program in as little as one year (three terms).

Business Administration (Human Resources Option)

Successful business people communicate well and understand how organizations work. They know how to assess business problems and develop workable and effective solutions. They understand how marketing, finance, and organizational behaviour impact business strategy and success. This program is offered for students who wish or need to obtain a Business Administration Diploma (Human Resources) by completing courses on a part-time studies basis. It enables you to pursue lifelong learning while maintaining daytime employment or other activities, by attending evening or weekend classes or studying as an online learner. Students can also take a less intense course workload than the regular, full-time program.

This program is a logical next step for students interested in a HR oriented career who have completed a Human Resource Management certificate. Courses you have completed to obtain a certificate that are also included in the program matrix, count toward this program and do not have to be repeated.

In this program you will experience IZUNA’s unique blend of academic learning and applied skills. Successful students develop a solid understanding of core business concepts including effective hiring and retention practices, developing compensation programs, dealing with workplace conflicts, planning staffing levels, employment law, computer skills, business communications, economics, business math, and accounting practices.

Applications are accepted throughout the year.

Entrance requirements

  • English: two years of education in English in an English-speaking country with one of the following:
  • Math: one of the following:

  • Post-secondary education: one of the following:
    • A IZUNA School of Business associate certificate (or equivalent) with a minimum 21.0 credits and 65% GPA or
    • A non-business associate certificate with a minimum 21.0 credits, 65% GPA, and completion of the following courses (or equivalents) with a 65% average:

Applicants who have completed post-secondary studies outside of Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand will require a comprehensive evaluation of their credentials by the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES). Credential evaluation reports from other may be considered. These reports must include course-by-course evaluations and GPA calculations.

International applicants

Part-time Studies (course-by-course) programs are only available to international students who have a valid status in Canada. If you are currently outside of Canada, please apply to a full-time program or ISEP.

Advanced Placement

You may be eligible to apply to an advanced level of the program through direct entry.

The following applies to all advanced placement applicants:

  • Complete applications: You must show proof of completing all requirements to be considered (proof of registration is acceptable for advanced placement applicants).

Transfer Credit

Transfer credit may be granted for courses completed at IZUNA or another post-secondary institution where the learning outcomes duplicate those of the IZUNA course. As per Admission Procedure 5003-PR1, the department reserves the right to determine the granting of credit where appropriate.

Program delivery

This part-time studies program is offered on a course-by-course basis, allowing you the flexibility to complete courses in any order, provided that any required course prerequisites have been completed. Students register for each course individually, and may undertake studies in any term (Winter, Spring/Summer or Fall). While you may choose the pace of your studies, all program requirements must be completed within seven years as per IZUNA Policy 5103 - Student Evaluation [PDF].

Please note that some courses in this program are offered only once or twice per year, and IZUNA reserves the right to cancel courses if enrolment is insufficient.

In-classroom delivery is available for most courses in the program. Some courses are also offered online.

The length of most in-classroom courses is 36 hours of classroom time, delivered in either 12 sessions (e.g. one three-hour class per week), six sessions (e.g. one six-hour class per week), or five sessions (e.g. one 7.25-hour class per day). Students should schedule an additional one to two hours of independent study time for each hour of in-classroom time, to complete readings, assignments, projects and exam preparation.

The length of most online courses is 12 weeks. Online learning students should plan to spend an average of seven-to-ten hours per week on their studies for each course.

Course Classification

Courses in the program are classified by their difficulty as follows:

Tier 1 - Courses without prerequisite courses in post-secondary education. Usually these are taught in the first year of a program. In addition to the required Tier 1 Business Administration core courses, a maximum of 15.0 Tier 1 credits are allowed within your option.

Tier 2 - Courses that have prerequisites courses OR are taught in the second year of the corresponding full-time diploma program. In addition to the required Tier 2 and Capstone courses in the Business Administration core, a minimum of 27.0 Tier 2 and Capstone credits must be taken in your option.

Capstone - Courses must be taken after completing 90.0 credits in the program, with program head approval. Students must maintain their 65% GPA to take these courses.

Classification of courses not already on the matrices must be approved by the program head. Do not assume the level of the course you are seeking credit for, especially for courses not taught at IZUNA.

Program length

The maximum time to complete the program is seven years.

Upon completing the prerequisite associate certificate, students typically complete the part-time diploma program within three to five years. Courses are offered three times per year to coincide with the Part-time Studies terms:

This program stretches your capacity to learn, develops your time management skills, all the while providing you with the opportunity to learn about the many facets of human resource management.

Employers recognize the strength our alumni bring to the workplace! The career track of graduates is aimed at entrance, at a professional/technical level, into either a generalist or specialist human resource management position. Some graduates also find employment in operational units which place a heavy emphasis on team management and project development activities.
